Welcome to your first day on the job, new guy!
Here at Dairy Clown, we strive ourselves on quick, efficient service -- that's why our ice cream moves across a conveyor belt! Get ready to serve dish after dish, all while wearing a smile on your face (or a frown, it doesn't matter as long as it's painted on)!

This project was built for the 2023 Big Mode Game Jam from November 27th, 2023 to December 15th, 2023. It serves as a "spiritual prequel" to my other project, Gas Station Story, as it takes place on the same world but in a completely different area and with all-new characters. It also features brand new Game Boy Camera portraits for each character!

The "Download Now" button above will give you access to a Game Boy ROM file and an Analogue Pocket file. The  game will run on Game Boy Color and Game Boy Advanced devices. Download to play in your favorite emulator, or load onto a flash cart to play on real hardware!

You play as the New Guy on his first few days at the local clown ice cream parlor, Dairy Clown. Create frozen concoctions for your customers by applying toppings as the ice-cream goes whizzing past on a conveyor belt -- but watch out for "Clown Mode", which will cause everything to shift around and speed up!

This game looks great! It was made in GbStudio right?

Thanks a lot :D And yes, it was made with GB Studio!

I'm surprised when I boot the game and there's actually a narrative!
I like the idea of the game direction, really feels like an actual game boy game mechanic wise. Mainly on the simple part.

The downside I met is probably the tedious forced repetitiveness without much change in pace outside the story. (might have been good to allow player to roam around a bit more than the limited in between cutscenes we got and decide when they can start their ice cream serving than automatically starting it)

And the fact there's no minimum quota needed or/fail consequences other than a screen that show "you failed" but then the story continue as if nothing bad happened, not even having to redo the day before (even though every day it saves). There was no reason for me to not just idle during the entire ice cream scooping and proceed with the story. The story has no differentiation and even I got praised for doing great through idling a few days straight.

Love the portraits by the way, did a really good job there with costumes and expressions too! The story is simple but it sure does have its charm and the dialog is pretty well-written

Hey, thanks for the feedback! The main gameplay is definitely repetitive and tedious, I won’t disagree with you there hehe - I wanted to have Clown Mode make the actual ingredients themselves switch, but even if I had gotten that working it wouldn’t fix the repetition, it’d only make some of the levels more frantic. I’m definitely gonna keep all of this in mind if/when I come back to this project post-jam, thanks again!

Edit: There is a second ending if you do poorly on the last level! I forgot to delete a line of code by accident when testing the good ending, but that’s fixed now :D
